CHS has a open campus lunch, but today it was closed. There were armed police at all the entrances/exits, and no one was allowed in or out. The same also happened at Lake City High School.
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – An 18-year old man missing since Tuesday morning was arrested Wednesday after police found him at Lake City High School with guns in his car.
Police spent Wednesday morning searching for 18-year Brian Gilmore, who was listed as a missing person. During the search officers were concerned that Gilmore may have been in possesion of firearms. It had also been reportedly recently that Gilmore had been acting “erratic.”
His mother had last seen him Tuesday morning and last talked to him on the telephone Tuesday afternoon. She told police he’d left home wearing all camouflage clothing, and did not say where he was going.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday a Coeur d’Alene police officer was patrolling the area around Lake City High School when a school resource officer told him he’d seen Brian Gilmore driving on the campus while monitoring security cameras.
The officer immediately pulled in behind Gilmore’s vehicle. Gilmore got out of the car and started walking toward the school. The officer ordered him to the ground, and he was taken into custody without incident.
As detectives were searching his car they found three high-powered rifels stolen during a burglary the night before, and a shotgun that was sitting on the passenger seat in plain view.
Lake City High School was initially placed under a “modified lockdown” then later went into a full lockdown when officers discovered Gilmore on campus.
Gilmore has been charged by with Possession of a Weapon on a School Ground and Burglary. Charges are also pending from Kootenai County for Burglary.
Gilmore was transported to the jail and booked into the Kootenai County Public Safety Building.
Police say that all students and staff were safe and accounted for during the incident.

This kid actually goes to Coeur D’ Alene High School. Last year he was expelled from Lake City High School for bringing Mercury to school. That caused Lake City High School to be shut down for cleaning of the Mercury. He ended up going to CHS. I had him in my Junior English class last year, and sat by him for a semester. He seemed like a pretty weird guy. He is also in my Government class this year. He is always fighting and always comes into class with a black eye. The “modified lock down” could have lasted alot longer if he was not found. After he had been caught the Principal came on the speaker and told everyone what had been going on. He told us a little more that the article actually states. He said that “This Student” most likely would have gone through with whatever he had planned if he was not caught. He also said that the police were taking him in to question his motives and the possibility of a second person. He then went on to say that it was a likely possibility that he was at Lake City to pick up this other person to return to CHS. The police think this because he did not take any guns into the school when he was headed in. It is most likely that he would have hurt some people today if he was not caught. So stronger measures are now going to be discussed in keeping our schools safer in North Idaho. If the police had not been notified by his mother they think that there was a good chance that something bad could have happened today. Scary. I guess you never know. Never would I have thought that this kid would do something like this. That is why I am nice to everyone. I remember being the only one in my English class that even talked to him, although it was only a “Hi” or “How are you?”. So just keep in mind that at anytime someone that you have been mean too, might strike back. So be nice guys.
